r/Choosingbeggars In today's video, an insane woman on a scooter goes on a rampage in a grocery store and tries to scam everyone into buying her groceries for her. She even tries to trick a child into paying for her food. When a random passerby tries to help, a cashier begs him not to because the store hates her that much! • So I works at a store and we sold the guy an umbrella that usually goes through the table like you see at the pool and stuff . So I remember selling this guy the umbrella! It was about may so you know people are getting ready for summer so I go to the trailers that we store all the garden center furniture and it takes me like 20 minutes to find it. ( there’s a lot of stuff that needs to be moved ) I apologize for the wait.He complains about how long it takes and now he wants a discount . He does not get one! He tells me how I’m not good at my job I’m like ok! So the end of the summer comes.... this man brings on the same umbrella no box nothing . Says it didn’t work for him . When I tell you there was a few of us just shocked. This thing is faded and still wet with leaves! He said no that’s how he received it! Apparently this was a common thing he did and he was on the “ black list” for doing this kinda stuff so often. The umbrella looked like it literally sat in the hot sun 24/7 for the duration of summer!

I started to get out some Baht (Thai currency ) when my friend said don't. My friend told me the guy had no hands because he was a thief and had been caught twice stealing. That was how they dealt with thieves.

As a new cashier, I called my manager. (In reality, I wanted to tell her to gtfo) he kindly gave her a new thing of milk but firmly said “we will NOT do this again”. After she left, he told me that was the third time she had pulled that. Man, the patience that man had. I would have ripped her a new one.

  • Just because the lady was pulling a food scam doesn't mean she doesn't need the scooter cart. I would never assume a person using a scooter is just " fat and lazy". Lots of people do that thing where they try to get people to pay for their stuff and they don't use a scooters. Just because she can stand for a short time doesn't mean she isn't disabled. It really gets under my skin because someone made fun of me for using a scooter at a store once and was saying that basically I'm only using it because Im too fat and lazy to walk and it destroyed me. I can walk short distances but thats about it bc of my AS. That was the first and last time I used one. I'd rather lean my weight on the shopping cart if I dont need much and if I cant do that then I don't go at all because I dont want to risk being made fun of in public like that again.

  • I have a story that is sort of an anti entitlement story, the door-knocking begger reminded me of it. I take the role of the homeless guy and the rich woman plays an angel. I was walking down the street wrapped in a blanket as it was sort of cold. I was 20 at the time so I was pretty durable but it still sucked. Now I was not homeless because I was poor or anything, It was because I was young and decided to live without expense for a while as an experience. Well as I was saying I was walking along when this woman comes up to me and asks me "Hey are you homeless?" and I answer with a pleasant smile. "Yes I am, but I'm ok I promise!" She takes her purse down and pulls out a $20 bill and hands it to me. I tell her no that I can't possibly take it and then she goes "Oh I see! well here." she takes the money back. I am thinking that she understood that I wasn't going to ask her for money and took it back because I didn't want it. However, she slides the bill away and pulls out another, different pair of bills. two $50 bills and she pushes them at me, insisting that I take them. I can't turn the lady down so I take it with a thank you as she hurries away obviously proud of what she had done. Now the thing I didn't tell you, in the beginning, is that I was working a satisfying amount at the time both at a local video store and as a DJ. I made enough money to live any way I wanted, I just chose to go houseless. It allowed me to routinely take paychecks and buy things that other homeless people I met needed. That's exactly what I did with the money I got from that woman. A few good meals for a few hungry people.

  • I was standing in line with 4 of my young kids, waiting to checkout at Walgreens. The line was abnormally long (they were training a new cashier, which was obvious, & everybody so far, had been patent & understanding about the unusual wait...), & after waiting behind 4 other people, we were next. I saw about 5 people in line behind us- the elderly man behind us, walked with a cane, & only had 2 items (we had about 6 or 7), so I'd asked him if he'd like to go ahead of us, since he'd be quicker. He happily accepted, & thanked us. Just then, another woman walked to the end of the line, as I stepped back to let him by us, & as I stepped back, I saw a 9 month pregnant woman behind him, holding her toddler's hand, & 1 item. Making small talk while waiting, I'd found out the pregnant mom was a week past her due date- having been there myself several times, & knowing how uncomfortable it is, how long she'd been there, her son was getting antsy, etc..., I offered to switch places, & she happily accepted & said thanks. Just then, the woman that had only been standing @ the end of the line, for less than a min, lost her friggin mind, & started cursing at everybody, but mostly me, calling me a "racist cracker", bc I'd "let 2 white people jump the line, but didn't let the only black b!tch there, do the same...", & continued on her rampage, as she pushed her completely packed full cart through the long line of waiting customers, pushing a couple of them out of her way, til she passed my kids & I, & actually bumped into the pregnant woman & her son, trying to pay & quickly leave, b4 it got any worse. The nasty woman proceeded to slam her stuff onto the counter, cursing & carrying on, about how they're gonna check her out now, whether they liked it or not, or she will sue them for being racist like me! The cashier calmly explained to the woman, in case she simply misinterpreted what she'd seen, that those 2 customers hadn't "skipped the line", & that what happened, was a kind, respectful gesture, bc the people had been elderly & physically handicapped, & the other was overdue, w/ a toddler toddler, each only had 1 item, had been waiting long times in line already, & most importantly, since they would've been next in line, anyways, it had no effect on her wait time- she rudely cut him off, then demanded he shut up & scan, & that he was stupid for explaining to her, what she already watched, that pissed her off. Thankfully, management ended up kicking her out 😂 but I was irked. I've instilled great values in my kids, & always teach them to be courteous, like allowing those people to go ahead of us. They're also homeschooled, so they've never personally encountered racism, & haven't really witnessed any crazy negative situations, bc the only places we usually go, are places where we know well, & the people are usually kind & behave themselves like normal adults, lol. So my young kids got to experience their 1st real bad encounter, & had their 1st tango, w/ a racist asshole - all bc she was mad, that she witnessed an act of kindness, from 1 stranger to another, that had 0 effect on her🙄 Some people just shouldn't be allowed in the general public 😡

  • I worked at a Walmart a long time ago and as a cashier we’re told to ALWAYS look inside containers, totes and anything with drawers. This lady came into my line with 3 or 4 totes stacked inside each other. I started to separate them and she quickly said it’s just the totes and I’m in a hurry. I separated them anyway and found TONS of merchandise of all kinds stuffed in between each tote. She tried to look shocked and said she didn’t know how that stuff got there. I went to start scanning everything and she started yelling at me that she didn’t want the stuff and accused me of looking at her like she was a thief. News flash, she is a thief, lol. She ended up storming off without buying anything, I then heard her kid ask why he wasn’t getting the toy she promised him (it was one of the items she had hidden). There were clothes, a couple dvds (that would’ve sounded the alarm), toys, makeup products and a few other things I think.

  • I remember a gypsy beggar harassing me for about 100m or so for money. It was life or death blablah(I was familiar with her, and didn't believe her as it's always a dramatic story). I wasn't even polite anymore because she'd done this several times. I didn't raise my voice, but I was brief and basically only repeated 'no' or 'please leave me alone'. When I arrived at the grocery store I was headed to she went further than she ever had and actually placed herself in the door and physically touched my chest to block my path. I loudly screamed with an aggressive voice to not touch me and she was so startled she actually collapsed and fell. I wasn't actually that angry, but I've learned to use my voice as the first tool to deescalate(military guard). No point in using violence if your voice resolves the situation. Didn't expect her to fall though. I just kept walking. I assume she got up and found her next target. I don't feel bad for her at all. She's with a group of beggars that organize and split their takes, while also claiming territory and fending of other homeless people. No respect. They are also criminals as they intimidate and threaten 'rival' beggars. Junkies and people legitimately down on their luck.

  • I'm a little frustrated that these beggars are getting any replies. If you try to haggle and it's a reasonable I will respond, but some people are morons that there is no point responding to. I've had people agree to the price, but then they want me to meet them downtown where they live. Fuck that. A couple of morons showed up another time to pick a piece of furniture I gave away for free. But they showed up with no transportation and expected me to drive 45 minutes to deliver it to their home. For free. They seemed dissapointed, but left without trouble.

  • 3 years in a row, my boyfriend and I were part of a soft tip dart league that held the main league match in Las Vegas, NV. The third year we went, the match was at a hotel in Fremont Street. We decided to stay in a nearby hotel that was also on Fremont Street so that we were close to the hosting hotel but not in the hotel with everyone else. Our trip was absolutely horrible because every time we turned around we had people begging us to buy something from them, try something, or asking for money, alcohol, food, cigarettes and some asked straight up for money so that they could get drugs...it was horrible. One afternoon during our stay we walked to a place about 2 blocks outside of Fremont to visit a popular tourist attraction. We had a great time while we were at this attraction but after we came out of the building, we were waylaid by a beggar asking for "$1.67, for bus fair." After I told him no, my boyfriend decided to help the guy out but my boyfriend made the mistake of pulling out all of the change that he had in his pocket. UGH! I don't think he had a ton of money on him but it was enough that the guy followed us the entire 2 blocks back to Fremont Street where he proceeded to beg us both for more money, he kept saying that we could afford to give him more and even demanded we give him more money a couple of times. I told him multiple times that he wasn't going to get a dime more and he needed to go away but of course he kept following us. Thankfully, the area that we came into Fremont Street at is where the local police park whenever they are around. By the time we got to this area, there were 2 police cars parked with 2 officers standing nearby talking. As soon as this beggar saw them, he FINALLY backed off and high tailed it in the opposite direction. This was by far our worse trip to Vegas and we haven't been back since which doesn't hurt us to much since neither of us are gamblers.
