r/Maliciouscompliance OP works at a restaurant where a new manager who thinks that he's God's gift to mankind starts bossing people around. He explodes on OP over nothing and actually fires her on the spot. She walks out of the restaurant... and so does half the staff! Good luck running your restaurant without any employees, you idiot! Turns out that paying people minimum wage and treating them like garbage is a terrible way to retain employees!

  • Corporations are always fucking up everyone’s lives for the benefit of a handful of rich lazy nitwits. Yet somehow corporations are people and are defended from any responsibility. Rich people being in charge of anything is a bad idea.

  • I love the vacation one. Reminds me of my mom back in the day. She did IT and they had a ton of turnover for her "backup". She basically never took a day off, maybe 5 days in 15 years, and kept rolling it over. Cue new managment. "use it or lose it" policy, no payout. "Are you sure?" NO exceptions. OK, so, first week of october she informed them she'd see them all after the first of the year! They crapped themselves. She gave her notice the first day back in Jan.

  • I loved the one about the company giving an EXORBITANT amount of vacation xD xD xD Go check France guys ;) We have a minimal of 5 weeks (if working 35h per week) or 7 weeks (if working 39h per week) from start (no need to work for decades in the company to get these) plus an average go 10 public holidays. So, if you are smart about your vacation you can achieve 9 weeks per year. Sick leaves are unlimited and not under employer control aofc There is also, by law, extra leave (paid ofc) for family events (birth, death, wedding) or special event (moving).

  • I happen to known the pet store they’re talking about because I work at said pet store. Some of the managers eat shit. One of them recently got fired for using hard r on the sales floor multiple times, along with several other racial slurs, harassing and berating employees. The gm is a real star, who sided with that other manager and tried to fire everyone who reported her to hr. Thankfully she’s moving to a different store. We just got an external manager hire who thinks she’s the boss of everyone and keeps telling people she’s going to pick fights with another manager who’s above her, keeps telling people what to do despite not knowing anything about the store or how it runs. My favorite thing she’s done so far is pester another manager who was my manager that day because I was on truck (where I’m supposed to be) and not on the floor (where I’m not supposed to be even on non-truck days). Great stuff, these big box chain pet stores.

  • I worked at a small middle eastern restaurant in Lambertville NJ about a 15 years ago. The sort of owner (I learned he was running the business but his girlfriend was the owner) was very belligerent and aggressive with the staff. We had a couple of cooks, one was Jordanian and the other was Egyptian, a fellow from Egypt, and a friend of mine and I were the wait staff. After a few months the pseudo-owner became more and more unhinged. He started claiming that all tips had to be handed over to him and he would distribute them accordingly. My friend (a woman) was the first to see her tips drop off and she quit. I then started to see my tip slipping (Amal the Egyptian waiter and I always counted our tips before submitting them to the crazy owner). It turned out the owner was skimming the tips. Amal said he couldn't quit as he was trying to save money to buy a business of his own... so I complained. The owner said I was wrong and that if I didn't like it I could leave. I couldn't at that point in time so I just started keeping a larger percentage of my tips and claiming less. This was OK for a couple of weeks... then came THE DAY. I arrived for my shift at around 4pm. I changed into my work shirt and started to get the service stations ready and the tables set. Amal was busy doing his thing and the cook were joking around getting the kitchen ready when the crazy owner shows up. He starts complaining about everything. After laying in on the kitchen staff and Amal in Arabic... he turns his attention to me. "After you finish today... you fired... no come back." I look at him and ask... "I'm fired?"... "Yes... you finish serving today and you fired." I went straight to the back area and took off my work shirt, put on my shirt... and walked out. HE FREAKED OUT! I walked to work and I was about 100 yds from the restaurant when he chases me down screaming "You bad man... you MUST finish your work... must come and serve people!". I told him he fired me and I didn't have to do anything. i should mention that the lunatic was an ex MMA fighter and could have easily hurt me... but there were people on the street and he backed away cursing me out. The KICKER was that a few months later I heard... saw on the news... that he had been arrested. He had decided that he owned the restaurant... even after he and the girlfriend had broken up. He apparently went to her home... broke in and attacked her, tied her up, took her bank card and proceeded to the bank where he cleaned out as much money he could from her accounts. He then returned... beat her up some more and ran off. She was in very bad shape. It was just lucky that she had made plans with friends to go out later that day, and when she didn't answer the door, they let themselves in and found her... ambulance... cops... manhunt... blah blah blah. The last I saw of him was on TV as he was being led into court... "I didn't kill her... what is the big deal!" I heard he was convicted and sentenced to quite a few years in state prison. On a positive note... Amal decided to ask the girlfriend to sell him the restaurant... she did and the last I heard he is there.

They paid the employees out for being sick and wouldn't even let them return to work without a test, even if you were not sick with covid. So they force people to stay home and not work, pay them, then now, many months after the fact, all of our newer employees who had to take off during covid are now all negative in PTO. It will be a long time before any of them can even take their first hour of real vacation.

Then I'll tell the other guy to train the kid, and piss him off in the process. As soon as he's done training, he'll be so pissed, he'll quit, and if he doesn't, I'll fire him. It ticked us off because it is a creative place, why can't we show our creativity? My coworker made her pins, and some of the ones me and my coworkers wore helped break the ice during awkward silences while we cut their fabric. Luckily tattoos, piercings, and colored hair are fine. At this point masks are/were the only thing to show our personality. Also, I don't like confrontation but I hope I would say something if I saw a manager treat an employee that badly. I have a manager who likes to scold us, especially in front of customers. I haven't said anything to her, but other managers know when it happens.

Upon arrival, the foreman laid down his rules, ending with the words "and if you don't like it, you can leave." So my dad left. Not even an hour later, my dad was called to ask why he wasn't there, so he explained to the foreman's boss what had been said. The workmen who hadn't left clarified his explanation. The thing was, my dad was a safety officer and at the time one of the few in the whole country with the required qualifications. And the only one available for a few months. The project was on hold until my dad could be present. The foreman was ordered to apologise to my dad in person before he was reallocated to a different project and replaced by someone a lot more agreeable.

Especially the employee's!! They are what really make the business make money! I would invite the whole crew to lunch once a week and have a pow wow about how they feel and what we should change or not change. You don't go messing with the like this, until they all quit and you are left holding an empty bag!

    • @Thee Pokedex Ah, yes, the land of the free of work :D

      cy-onecy-one19 өдрийн өмнө
    • @cy-one nope, a company is allowed to fire anyone for any reason with an exception to discrimination by race, gender, age or SOME disabilities. Most states are even dicks about it and trick stupid people into thinking that the state is pro-worker by passing the "right to work" law. While this law sounds like it protects the workers right to work, it actually just means that you have the right to go work somewhere else. It allows companies to fire employees for any reason except for the above listed discriminations, though as stated previously, a company can make a loophole by saying someone is fired for a different reason than what they're actually fired for. The beauty of capitalism.

      Thee PokedexThee Pokedex19 өдрийн өмнө
    • @Thee Pokedex And lemme guess, in the world's capital of sueing companies for stupid shit, that legit reason wouldn't actually fly?

      cy-onecy-one19 өдрийн өмнө
    • Yup, basically in the "perfect capitalist society" of America, our Lord has blessed us with limited sick days at work. If you exceed that then you just don't get paid and can even get fired. Hell you can get fired for just taking a few sick days off. Sure the company would say its for something else for legal reasons, but when you come back to work after being gone for so long because of Chemo and you get fired on the spot and your boss says its for something completely random (your hair color doesn't match our company policy, customers feel uncomfortable around you, etc. All of this despite working there for months beforehand), its obvious when you get fired for sick leave.

  • 5:42 Hold up. I looked it up and a pacemaker can be disrupted from as little as 5 mT, 9.5 inches away. Wouldn't that mean that opening a refrigerator, which is held closed with magnets stronger than that, should kill anyone with a pacemaker? If there's a way top protect against that, then how would the magnetic nametag, a much weaker magnet, be a threat? Like, something doesn't add up here...

    Elizabeth EnnsElizabeth Enns19 өдрийн өмнө
    • A magnet isn’t going to turn off a pacemaker, just make it pace at a fixed rate until the magnet is removed. It will turn off an ICDs function until the magnet is removed, so the person isn’t getting shocked if they are having an arrhythmia. Presumably, you’d only be near the refrigerator magnet for a brief time. The issue with a magnetic name badge would be that since the magnet is over the pacemaker for a shift, that would be several hours where the pacemaker was not at the rate the physician set for you, or you’d be left for hours without the protection of your defibrillator. Most name badge magnets likely wouldn’t affect the function, but some small magnets are stronger than you’d think and that employee was likely advised to be cautious around magnets.
