r/Maliciouscompliance How A Stupid Karen Got Herself Fired!

r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, a high-ranking executive at a large company decides that she doesn't need mandatory training because she's just too important and has too many things to do! OP is happy to accommodate her, even though it was Karen's boss who specifically required Karen to take the training. I'm sure this won't come back to bite you in the butt, Karen!

  • "AED" actually stands for "Automated Electronic Defibrillator" - a machine used to defibrillate a person's heart if they have a heart attack. I'm not sure where they got "discharger" for this.

  • You should learn about the Internet. New Zealand could sink a fortune into its Internet, BUT if most servers that the people need to go to are NOT in New Zealand then the bandwidth in submarine cables to the servers is lacking. The same goes to a lesser extent with Australia. Only western North Carolina, where most of the commercial master servers are located for the globe, can local infrastructure make a big difference.

  • All call centers are soul traps. 😭😭 Karen is the only person who would complain about a company paid training. 😂😂😂😂😂 In the u.s., company training meant you didn't have to work for part of the day or the whole day and you still got paid. Some company paid trainings could be longer depending on the job and you still get paid.

  • For 7 years, my boss appreciated I came in early, sometimes Saturday mornings to prepare for Mondays meetings and rarely if ever took a lunch hour away from my switchboard. Except it was understood that on pay day, I could take 2 hours. New boss complained about my time keeping (he knew about the previous arrangement because he wasnt new, he was just promoted). It came up in my review and went against me. Soooo. I turned up on the dot in the morning, took one whole hour for lunch each day (they had to answer the phones themselves) and left on the dot of 5 - even if there were things I could have helped with. Be careful what you ask for. Idiot.

Typical things are enforced non-payment for 3 months as opposed to the usual 30 day limit... oh the money saved! while at the same time it destroys ALL of your reputation to smaller companies.. you know... those small companies that bend over backwards not only 24 hrs of the day, but also will respond to keep your multi-national company running on X-mas day or even NY-day.., where are the bean counters on those days/times? Tucked up in mansions enjoying their quiet life!

  • Around 10 years ago I worked in a call center for a mail-order catalog company, it was soul-destroying and I hated it. Customers would sometimes use perk codes for free stuff like toasters, DVD's, towel bails, etc...I got into the habit of giving free stuff away like it was going out of fashion, we had a list of all the codes for all the free stuff on our system and I'd generally go through the list with customers and ask what they wanted. One afternoon, I had a distraught customer who had been jerked around by the company, I spent 20 mins going through all the codes trying to placate her. On the last page of the code database, I found a "Managers special 50% off". I asked if that would make her feel better and she graciously accepted, she was only ordering $100 worth of stuff which she got for $50. She couldn't praise me highly enough. In training, nobody told me the codes were valid for 24hrs, not just the call...The customer must have hung up and had a lightbulb moment because she called back and placed an order for $4000 worth of gold chains and used my code. A few days pass and I get called into my manager's office, she explained what happened and I started to giggle, as my manager chastised me it made me laugh harder and harder until I was in tears howling with laughter. I got fired on the spot for not taking my job seriously and negligence. Fast forward to a few months back and I'm a broadband engineer. I get a call to visit a customer and it was my ex-manager, she didn't recognize me at first, so...I asked if she remembered me, it took her a couple of mins for the gears to kick in a remember that day. Apparently, 10 years on I'm still used as an example of what not to do and how not to behave.

  • I was hoping the Karen story would be actually working for one. I used to. Holy hell, it was like she expected food to just appear. Like I'm given an order and not even a minute later, she's shrieking and snapping her fingers at me to hurry up. On food. That takes 15 min to cook, not including prep. She only got her position because her husband owned the place, expected her to run it. And run it she did. Very poorly. I was only a cook but she just expected me to take on managerial duties. One time, while prepping for the day, I had to make sure stuff was there to use. So I check the fridge for waffle fries. Nope. I go back to the freezer. She let some 15 year old kid put the inventory away, and so yes, none of it was organized. So I had to spend a half hour looking at every box to try and find waffle fries. Nope. So as I am supposed to, I approach her and say, "ma'am, there are no waffle fries in the fridge nor the freezer. What should I put on the menu instead?" And she screeched at me. At ME because she didnt order waffle fries. And apparently it's my job to tell her when she needs fries even though there's no way I'd know that. She asked me once to stay and work later than I was scheduled, and I said no, I have plans that cannot be canceled. She leans on me, like to seem threatening, and said "you're going to stay here and work because I told you to". K. So my time came when I was supposed to leave. And so I did. Because I told you that I had plans and that I wouldn't be able to stay, you lopsided trash. So she fired me. I took it to court and was able to get a severance pay. She was fuming in court, it was a real hoot. And having gone there to eat years after, the business apparently was "too financially unstable and inadequate management," leading her husband to sell the place and now its under new management. 😂

  • This is OP's error, not rSlash, but an AED is an Automatic External Defibrillator. It genuinely took me a second to realize what the hell OP was talking about because of how off his explanation was. Basically, my point is, they're talking about a machine used in first aid to jumpstart a patient's heart in case of emergency, not a taser lol.

Boss complains I've been sat in the brew room for hours doing nothing...... he looked confused when I replied with all maintenance schedules are up to date, workshops are all clean and tidy and all rides are operating as efficiently as the crews can run them...... he changed the subject slightly and said well why haven't you finished the work on the roller coaster car you've got in bits down stairs? I just gave a dead pan reply of I'm still waiting for the parts I ordered 8 months ago that you cancelled.... -_-

I've never had to use the CPR training and I hope I never do, but other first aid skills, yes, I have had to use. Let's just say that whatever you think you might be prepared for, an actual situation is likely to throw in a curveball or two you're not anticipating. You think you know all about first aid?
